Anna Alcock
Anna Alcock is a South African multidisciplinary artist based in London. She graduated in 1998 with a traditional BA Fine Art degree that included majors in Classics, Drawing, History of Art, and Printmaking. After pursuing her studies she then relocated to London and obtained a Master's degree in Printmaking from Camberwell College of Art in 2004. Printmaking became her primary artistic medium, and her subject matter draws on personal experiences and emotions. A large portion of her art is based on her relationship to South Africa. Alcock aims to recreate stories through personal mythology, existing in a world that seems to have forgotten or become conflicted with the fundamental and awe-inspiring truths explored in stories, folktales, myths, and legends. These age-old narratives, she believes, still hold profound meaning for contemporary audiences.
Anna has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad and has her work in private and public collections around the world. One of her prints is currently exhibited in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy 2024, "The Bathers" inspiring and reimagining "Les Grandes Baigneuses" de Paul Cézanne but with a different approach, in Alcock's images of women interacting at peace supporting each other.
She has been the Director of Inky Cuttlefish Studio in Walthamstow since 2007.
